In the words of George Bernard Shaw, “there is no accomplishment so easy to acquire as politeness, and none more profitable.” A simple concept you might think - business etiquette - and one so important you would think everyone would make it a priority to learn. Yet, for the most part, it happens to be quite the opposite. Almost 10 years ago, in the fall of 1995, I was asked to write a column on business etiquette for The South Florida Business ... We have all heard the news and stories of the high cost of health Insurance. Most people don't know that they can get access to doctors and hospitals for as little as $30 to $40 a month. A Health agent help their clients find the best plan that fit their needs best, while not breaking their piggy bank every month.
Miami-Dade county has even partnered with BlueCross BlueShield to create health plans that are subsidized by the county that has brought the cost of health ... (Read More)

The U.S. Senate recently passed what some consider to be a long-awaited “jobs bill.”
The $15 billion Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment Act would provide Social Security payroll tax exemptions to employers that hire workers who have been unemployed for at least 60 days. Companies that keep a new hire employed for one year would be eligible for an additional $1,000 tax credit. Businesses that spend money on capital investments also would get tax ... (Read More)

It's all about who you know.
You've most likely heard that adage throughout the years, as it can be applied to many situations, and job searching is no exception. But when you're looking for work, it's equally about who you know and about who knows you. Professionals call this concept networking.
Many statistics point to the fact that about 60 percent of job seekers find work by networking with various people. Luckily, in today's world, technology has made it easier ... (Read More)

Ask almost anyone in the workplace today, and they will tell you they are doing a good job. While they might acknowledge that their work isn’t perfect, they take pride in what they do and the contribution they believe they are making to their employer. So, why do so many of us get hit with what seems like a layoff out-of-the-blue? What’s behind the pink slip so many of us never saw coming? The answer lies in the changing definition of ... Couples Retreat Movie's Funny & Filled with Secrets to Marital Success

My wife and I went the movies to watch “Couples Retreat” and got a bit more than we expected. It was filled with the expected Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau gags. It's a funny movie. But what surprised us was the very positive pro-marriage message. I think it’s just what the doctor ordered for a strained job seeker marriage. (It’s also a nice treat from a Hollywood that often portrays marriages as antiquated and irrelevant.)
The story begins with ... (Read More)

I got this from someone in an email a long while back. I keep stuff much longer than most do only so I can use it for writing fodder someday in the future. Well I ran into this one and the day came for this one. Watch out! (BTW, it came with no author, so if it's yours claim it and I'll give you credit. Here's what it says:
THE BUZZARD: If you put a buzzard in a pen that is 6 feet by 8 feet and is entirely open at the top, the bird, in spite of its ability to fly, will ... (Read More)

I work hard to share engaging content in our newsletters and typically search through my many RSS recruitment feeds for something that sticks out and inspires me to share my thoughts. I did come across a great post this morning from The HR Bartender on communication, which I commented on, but when I sat down to write my blog......I WAS BLOCKED!

So, you just got laid off or you have been out of a job for months or you simply feel that you don’t make enough money where you currently work – whatever the case may be, there comes a point in our lives when we feel we just need more money, so what do we do? We grovel, organize pity parties and basically tell anyone who will listen how things are so expensive these days, how we are just not paid what we are worth and how the economy has affected ...
